2017 GROUP CLASS SCHEDULE (last modified 07-20-2017)
Currently, all the classes are full with occasional drop-in spots available. If you would like to attend a regular group class, let me know three best options with your schedule. I will check studio availability, my schedule, and see if there are times when we could start a new class. I just need 3 students to commit. You can ask if any of your friends, too. For group equipment classes, 3 students need to commit to a weekly time. For group NON equipment classes (Pilates Mat, Foot Fitness, and GYROKINESIS®), 6 students need to commit to a weekly time.

TO BOOK A CLASS
To book a class, please contact Shuriu at firstname.lastname@example.org or (562) 243-9105. Can’t find a class that meets your schedule? Find a couple friends who can meet at the same time as you and Shuriu can arrange to set up a class at that time. Group class rates vary depending on where the class is held. If you are calling to schedule the day of a class, Shuriu is unable to answer phone calls when she is with clients, which tends to happen before and after class. Thank you!

Foot Fitness Class. Many injuries begin with incorrect or inefficient alignment and muscle imbalances. Apply principles of physical therapy and Pilates to exercises for the feet, one of the primary sources of chronic injury. For best results, combine regular class attendance with Pilates or GYROTONIC® workouts. Bring toe socks (socks with each toe articulated) or work with bare feet. Bring your own exercise mat. 30-min. class. $10/class or $5/class for associated dance studio* unlimited monthly classes students.
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization Workshop. This cumulative class builds upon DNS principles focusing on stabilizing from the most simple developmental positions to more complicated movement patterns. This class reinforces private session homework designed to help clients re-center through breath and body awareness in a gentle setting. While it is free to Shuriu’s current clients, it is $15 per class to exercise enthusiasts and $35 per class for exercise professionals (which includes follow-up not after the workshop). 30-min. class.
GYROTONIC® Group Pulley Tower Classes are limited to 3-4 people per class, (limited to 3 participants in Long Beach and 4 participants in Huntington Beach). Pre-requisite: mininum 10 private sessions on the Bench-Pulley Tower; this requirement comes as a courtesy to the other students so that a class flow and rhythm can be maintained as a group. The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® consists of exercises that create more space, fluidity, strength, and ease within the body. Appropriate for fit people of all age groups and backgrounds. The first class of the month establishes the specific exercises we will target and study in greater depth in each subsequent class, layering in GYROTONIC® principles such as creating more strength through internal contrast, moving with rhythm and flow, and using the breath to deepen the movement. Level 1 exercises are taught. These classes are a steal at $35/class. After one year of regular class attendance, student qualifies for $150/5 class card. Space is very limited. Taught by an authorized GYROTONIC® Pre-Trainer with over 15 years of experience who is also certified in all the specialized equipment and in GYROKINESIS® Level 1.
GYROKINESIS® exercises are related to GYROTONIC® exercises, but no equipment is used. This class invigorates and re-educates the body to move with fluidity, relaxation and power. Systematically and gently work the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating exercises. Movement stimulates the body’s internal organs and different corresponding breathing patterns are integrated. Fluidity is the key. Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead, postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance than traditional yoga. Famous ballet dancers who practice(d) GYROTONIC® regularly: Alessandra Ferri (American Ballet Theatre), Susan Jaffe (ABT), Maurya Kerr (Lines Contemporary Ballet — actually, most of Lines Contemporary Ballet dancers and many members of the San Francisco Ballet…. 60- minute format. $20 pay as you go. Special discount offered to associated dance studio* unlimited monthly class students: $5/class. Limit: 10 students.
Movement Lab. Serious movers take note: this is the best way to review Pilates principles, GYROTONIC® exercise principles, and injury prevention techniques common to dancers and extreme athletes. Put it all together, studying one specific issue or injury site each class. $20/class or $5/class for associated dance studio* unlimited monthly classes students.
Pilates Reformer. Pilates exercises on the pilates reformer equipment. Pre-requisite: minimum 10 private sessions on the Pilates reformer; this requirement comes as a courtesy to the other students so that a class flow and rhythm can be maintained as a group. Bring a small handtowel to class. 55-min. class. Maximum 4 people (4th person must be intermediate/advanced and will be on the Wunda Chair/mat only). $35 pay as you go. $150/5 class card.
Restorative Pilates Reformer. Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization influencing Pilates exercises on the pilates reformer equipment. Joint centration, Intra-Abdominal Pressure — as taught by the Prague School at Charles Medical University in the Czech Republic — and inner calmness emphasized rather than Pilates choreography. Pre-requisite: openness and curiosity to explore your own process and body. Bring a small handtowel to class. 25-min. class. Maximum 3 people. $15 class.
